We've finally made some serious progress on the house! And not things like replacing the roof or repairing the wiring, which doesn't make for particularly pretty or interesting pictures (as I don't think anyone aside from new home-owners gets excited by silver coating a rubber roof) or for particularly informative posts (as I had a direct hand in none of that and can't speak intelligently about the process). No, no, it's nothing like that.
I'm pleased to announce... that we have bathroom tile and kitchen cabinets!
They're far from finished and the images are of poor quality at best, being as I took them on my cell phone in a house that's still lacking several light fixtures. But here they are, with before photos for comparison:

The mosaic tile is going to extend into the shower stall and wrap around the entire bathroom. It will also be topped by a glossy black 3" x 6" chair rail tile, which I recently drove over to Cherry Hill, NJ to exchange, as my contractor had purchased a white chair rail tile by mistake. The bathroom tiles are from Avalon Tile, where I recently went on a carpet-buying excursion. There will be more about that boyfriend-coma-inducing experience later.

It's difficult to see because of the quality of the photos, but the kitchen tile is a cream/beige 12" x 12" tile purchased from Home Depot. The cabinets are from VIP Building Supply at the corner of 22nd and Washington in south Philadelphia. They don't have a website or I'd link it.
I still have to figure out what color to paint the kitchen and, honestly, I'm at a total loss. My great-grandmother had beautiful yellow kitchens all my life. My mother had one, too, before she went on a design fit of making everything in her old house in New Jersey peach and blue. I love the bright, sunny look, but it just won't work with the brown shaker cabinets I was talked into by mother and my realtor, who kept assuring me that my original desire for either black or white cabinets wouldn't help with long-term resale opportunities. Of course, I just bought the place! Selling it is the very last thing on my mind... as evidenced by my inexplicable desire to put up one wall of newsprint wallpaper in the third bedroom "for fun" - which is probably a sure sign that I've lost my mind entirely.
If not, I will soon. There's still the dreaded pink carpet to deal with, as well as the rooms upon rooms upon rooms of wood paneling, which is quickly becoming both the bane of my existence and serious motivation to get a tetanus shot. Lockjaw would put a serious cramp in my ability to enjoy a shiny new kitchen. After all, I really don't see much point in cooking if I can't actually eat.
